Teatro Interalumnia
Venezuela, 1981
A space for dance, music, theatre, film, and conferences which seats 250 people. A system of rectangular mahogany niches compose the walls of the theater and control the acoustics by reflecting the sound from the stage to the audience and then trapping it as it bounces back. On the ceiling a sequence of inverted barrel vaults contain the mechanical and sound systems. The proscenium is not expressed. With only a curtain separating the audience from the stage, they appear to merge. Movable acoustical panels adapt the stage for chamber music or solo performances.
